So I'm not the only one who is increasingly dissatisfied with the Republican Party... I'm not switching yet, but I have appreciated Specter's straightforward approach to getting things done. In a party which is leaning toward the religious right on a daily basis, I have considered switching for some time, but I don't think the Democratic party is in line with my views either. I've been calling myself a Republicrat, voting for whichever candidate is closest to my own opinion regardless of party. But that means that the opposite party's primaries are out of reach, and I have no affect on the outcome of the primary.
In short, some of the same reasons I left the Church are the same reasons I lean toward the Democratic side. On the other hand, there are other issues that I tend to be more conservative about.
Why can't we just have a non-party system. I think the two-party system has outlived its usefulness.
